Regarding: coffee

Re:co is a unique, experiential gathering of the specialty coffee industry designed to explore the emerging future so that we may effectively–and collectively–respond to its opportunities.

Over the past 15 years, we’ve watched Re:co repeatedly create a vibrant network of emerging and existing leadership within the specialty coffee industry during its brief emergence every year. As participants engage with the program’s presentations, seminars, experiences, and discussions, they find inspiration for their own work. Sometimes, they even return to future Re:co events to lead activities or deliver presentations.

Re:co is a place to take part in this generative cycle and actively participate in moving the industry forward, together.

Who Participates?

Re:co participants aren’t defined by a specific role or title—they’re defined by how they think about and engage with specialty coffee. They’re an evolving, fluid community with a diverse range of experiences and perspectives, united by a desire to build a better future for the specialty coffee industry. They actively seek out new and evolving information about different facets of coffee’s complex value-generating system, and they’re curious as to how they might integrate what they find into their own activities.

Much like the Specialty Coffee Association, participants are interested in building a thriving, equitable, and sustainable future for our industry. Their perspective on how we might collectively do this may differ, but they recognize that the best way to achieve the industry’s longevity is a “yes, and…” approach, so they’re keen to understand and explore other perspectives and opportunities to build this future together.

What Should I Expect?

Re:co’s approach to curating its program reflects the diversity of its participants. Some are most inspired by plenary talks offered on the first day of this year’s program: short, polished presentations designed to articulate a key idea or concept to an audience. Others are most inspired by seminars, which are offered the second day: longer, intimate (and interactive!), discursive sessions that offer an in-depth exploration or practical application of a concept. And yet others have cited the program’s sensory experiences, opportunities to taste things directly connected to the topics covered in the plenary and seminar sessions, or the general atmosphere of connection with their fellow participants across coffee breaks and mealtimes, as their favorite parts of the program.

The intentional connections the Re:co team works to build between these different parts of the program makes the event a two-day experience designed to immerse you in the emerging future of the industry and spark connections, whether personal or intellectual, that will help you respond to what lies ahead. Although one-day tickets are available, most participants opt to engage in all that Re:co has to offer across the full, two-day program–and this year, if you’re unsure of how to make the most of your time at the event, we’re offering a short program and reception on Tuesday evening to help you find your feet.
